Pan Ki-moon Highlights Turkmenistan’s Role in Regional Peace and Development

Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Korea, Begench Durdyyev, met Monday with Ban Ki-moon, president of the Assembly and chairman of the Council of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), and former secretary-general of the United Nations. During the discussion, Ban Ki-moon praised Turkmenistan’s contributions to regional peace and development, as well as the country’s humanitarian-focused foreign policy, calling these achievements an example for other nations, as reported by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Republic of Korea.
He also acknowledged Turkmenistan’s consistent commitment to neutrality over the past 30 years. Ban Ki-moon expressed appreciation for the long-standing cooperation and recalled his visits to Ashgabat in 2010, 2015, and 2016.
Ambassador Durdyyev outlined the events planned for 2025 in honor of Turkmenistan’s 30th anniversary of neutrality and the International Year of Peace and Trust. He highlighted an international forum scheduled for December 11-12.
Ban Ki-moon reaffirmed his willingness to support Turkmenistan’s initiatives and discussed expanding cooperation in green development and sustainable resource management.
A South Korean diplomat, Ban Ki-moon served as UN Secretary-General from 2007 to 2016. Known for his active efforts in peace and security, human rights, and climate change, he played a key role in global cooperation. His leadership at the UN included organizing peace negotiations, addressing humanitarian crises, and facilitating the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement.
