Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mahri Bashimova hosted a delegation headed by Francis Malige, Managing Director of the Financial Institutions Department of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), on Wednesday in Ashgabat. During the talks, they discussed preparing a new EBRD strategy for Turkmenistan for the upcoming period.

The delegation arrived in the country to assess the needs of Turkmenistan’s banking sector and explore new areas of cooperation with the EBRD, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The sides highlighted the long-term and successful partnership between Turkmenistan and the EBRD, which has implemented over 80 projects in various fields, including trade support, manufacturing, and the development of small and medium-sized businesses.

The meeting participants focused on the EBRD’s priorities in Turkmenistan, including a focus on export orientation, cooperation with the banking sector, and the introduction of modern banking practices.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, founded in 1991 by 40 countries and two international organizations, operates in 34 countries today. The bank began its activities in Turkmenistan in 1992.
