Turkmenistan, EU Discuss Security Cooperation and Regional Initiatives

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Ahmet Kurbanov met on Monday with EU Ambassador to Turkmenistan Beata Peksa and experts from the Hedayah Center, a leading international organization focused on countering violent extremism, as reported by the press service of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on enhancing cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union in the field of security. They highlighted the importance of regional programs such as CADAP and BOMCA, which contribute not only to strengthening border security but also to promoting interregional cooperation and overall development.

Discussions also included potential collaboration under the EU’s regional STRIVE Asia program. The sides noted the significance of the LEICA project – Law Enforcement in Central Asia (2020–2024), which has supported a range of initiatives aimed at building capacity and strengthening cooperation in security and the protection of critical infrastructure.

The meeting also underscored the importance of several joint documents, including the Roadmap for Deepening Ties Between Central Asia and the European Union adopted in Luxembourg in 2023, the Joint Communiqué of the 20th EU–Central Asia Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Ashgabat this March, and the Joint Declaration issued following the first EU–Central Asia Summit in Samarkand last month.
