Kazakhstan plans to commission the upgraded “Temir Baba” road checkpoint on the border with Turkmenistan by the end of 2025, Deputy Chairman of the State Revenue Committee of the Ministry of Finance Bakytzhan Slyamov said at a press conference hosted by the Central Communications Service under the President of Kazakhstan.

According to the Unified Platform of Government Web Resources on Thursday, the modernization is being carried out as part of a national project launched in 2018 to boost Kazakhstan’s transit potential. Special attention is being given to the country’s external borders with China, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan.

Deputy Chairman of the State Revenue Committee Bakytzhan Slyamov noted that the project is guided by the principles of speed, security, efficiency, and comfort. The checkpoints are being equipped with modern technology and upgraded to accommodate increasing volumes of cargo and passenger traffic.

This year, modernization work has already been completed at the Kaplanbek, Atameken, Kolzhat, and Alakol checkpoints. Remaining facilities — including Kazygurt, Tazhen, Temir Baba, Maikapchagai, and Bakhty — are scheduled to be launched by the end of the year.

Meanwhile, Turkmenistan is considering resuming direct flights between Ashgabat and Almaty as early as 2025.
