Kazakhstan plans to increase cargo transportation towards Turkmenistan

The Government of Kazakhstan has developed a draft law on the ratification of the agreement on strategic cooperation in the field of transport, logistics and transit with the Government of Turkmenistan. According to Kursiv media, the government of the neighboring country expects that the adoption of the document by the parliament will lead to an increase in the volume of mutual cargo transportation.

“The draft law of the Republic of Kazakhstan On ratification of the agreement on strategic cooperation in the field of transport, logistics and transit between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of Turkmenistan has been developed with the aim of further developing cooperation in the field of transport, logistics and transit of the two countries,” reads the rationale for the draft law signed by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov.

According to the developer, represented by the Ministry of Transport, the adoption of the document will help attract new traffic volumes through the territories of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, as well as take joint measures to create favorable tariff conditions, coordinate infrastructure development, and introduce digital solutions for the exchange of preliminary and other information.

In particular, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan plan to establish and develop cooperation in the field of rail, sea and road transport, which will lead to efficient and safe transportation of goods. The two governments will also continue to work within the framework of the current working group on transport and logistics.

There is a road and railway between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, as well as possible transport links across the Caspian Sea. The agreement between the Government of Kazakhstan and the Government of Turkmenistan on the development of cooperation in the field of transport, logistics and transit was signed on behalf of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Ashgabat on October 10, 2024 by Minister of Transport Marat Karabayev.
