First China-Tehran Test Container Train to Transit Through Turkmenistan

10.11.2025

The first phase of the international multimodal transport corridor China–Osh–Savai–Sarakhs–Tehran has begun with the dispatch of an initial test batch of containers, according to TULM.

Nine containers have arrived from China through the Kashgar border checkpoint to the Osh station in Kyrgyzstan. The containers are currently being transferred from road vehicles to rail fitting platforms.

The project is jointly implemented by the Transport and Logistics Centre of Turkmenistan (TULM) and CNTRAN INT’L LOGISTICS. It aims to promote multimodal transportation and establish a reliable route for container shipments from China through Central Asia to Iran and onward to the Middle East.

The containers will continue along the route China–Osh–Savai–Sarakhs–Tehran, transiting through Turkmenistan. The pilot project is considered an important step toward strengthening transport and logistics cooperation in the region and enhancing

Turkmenistan’s role as a key transit hub along the North–South and East–West corridors.

Earlier, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Azerbaijan have launched a test route linking China with Baku, as part of efforts to strengthen regional transport ties and expand international logistics.
