29.01.2026

Turkmenistan and Afghanistan are moving rail projects toward practical implementation, officials said during a videoconference between Turkmenistan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi. The talks focused on bilateral cooperation for the current year.

Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry said Wednesday that the Afghan side noted positive momentum in relations. The ministry also reported a high level of readiness for power transmission projects under the TAP framework.

Meredov emphasized the long-standing and friendly nature of Turkmen-Afghan relations and stressed the need for coordination in implementing joint economic projects, as well as preparations for official visits and upcoming bilateral events.

Following the talks, both sides reaffirmed the importance of strengthening regional dialogue, including within the Afghanistan–Central Asia corridor.
