National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a series of meetings during a visit to the United States, Turkmen state media reported Saturday.

As part of the visit, Berdimuhamedov met with Eric Stewart, executive director of the Turkmenistan–U.S. Business Council. Stewart said he was pleased to welcome Berdimuhamedov to the United States and noted strong interest among U.S. business circles in expanding mutually beneficial cooperation with Turkmenistan, citing the country’s significant economic potential.

Berdimuhamedov said relations between Turkmenistan and the United States are developing across a range of areas, with business communities in both countries actively involved in joint projects. Cooperation based on mutual respect and trust offers broad opportunities for further expansion, he said.

Stewart emphasized that efforts are continuing to establish, develop and strengthen ties between the economic sectors of the two countries.

During the visit, Berdimuhamedov also met with prominent U.S. political analysts and business leaders. Among those who received him were entrepreneurs Steve Wynn, Isaac Perlmutter and William Koch, chairman of the board of the Oxbow Group.

The chairman of the Halk Maslahaty also held talks with Csaba Lejko, president and chief executive officer for the CIS and Central Asia at John Deere Walldorf International GmbH, focusing on strengthening cooperation in the agricultural sector. The sides identified key areas of bilateral cooperation and noted the long-term nature of established business ties with John Deere.

As part of the U.S. visit, Berdimuhamedov also toured Panther National Golf Club.
