Turkmenistan, European Investment Bank Discuss Ashgabat–Dashoguz Railway Reconstruction

26.02.2026

Officials from Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Railway Transport met with representatives of the European Investment Bank in Ashgabat on Tuesday to discuss the reconstruction of the 522-kilometer Ashgabat–Dashoguz railway line, according to Turkmenistan’s state media.

The project aims to increase the line’s capacity linking the country’s southern and northern regions and to strengthen Turkmenistan’s transit potential within international transport and logistics corridors.

The sides discussed strategic areas of cooperation and possible financing instruments for priority infrastructure projects, as well as issues related to the technical modernization of the railway sector.

Cooperation with international financial institutions was described as a key factor in upgrading the national transport infrastructure. The implementation of joint initiatives is expected to modernize the sector’s material and technical base and ensure that railway corridors meet international safety and efficiency standards.

Turkmenistan and the EIB also agreed to hold final negotiations on a draft framework agreement for the project.
