Turkmenistan, Russia and Afghanistan to Establish New Transport Corridor
07.04.2026
Turkmenistan, Russia and Afghanistan plan to sign a trilateral agreement to establish a new transit corridor.
The document is expected to be approved in May on the sidelines of the Russia — Islamic World: KazanForum, Tolonews reported Saturday.
The initiative to launch the route was proposed by Afghanistan’s Minister of Industry and Commerce, Nuriddin Azizi. Initial shipments along the new corridor are expected to originate from Russia’s Tatarstan.
Project coordination on the regional side is being led by Tatarstan’s Minister of Industry and Trade, Oleg Korobchenko.
The Turkmenistan–Afghanistan border stretches for about 800 kilometers along the southeastern part of Turkmenistan, with a significant section running along the Amu Darya River. Key border crossings include Imam Nazar–Aqina and Serhetabat– Torghundi.
