UN General Assembly Supports Turkmenistan Initiative on Neutrality

The UN General Assembly on May 20, 2026, unanimously adopted the Resolution “The Role and Importance of a Policy of Neutrality in Maintaining and Strengthening International Peace, Security and Sustainable Development” during the 82nd plenary meeting of its 80th session.

According to Turkmenistan’s official media, 47 countries co-sponsored the document prepared at the initiative of Turkmenistan.

The Resolution highlights the efforts of the Government of Turkmenistan to institutionalize dialogue on neutrality, preventive diplomacy and peace in line with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.

Turkmenistan, as a permanently neutral state, will continue implementing practical steps aimed at strengthening an atmosphere of cooperation, mutual understanding and mutual respect to ensure stability and sustainable development at the regional and global levels, the report said.
