THE KEEL LAYING CEREMONY OF THE SECOND DRY CARGO SHIP AT THE BALKAN SHIPYARD
On May 15, 2025, a solemn event dedicated to the keel laying of the second dry cargo ship was held at the Shipbuilding and repairing yard “Balkan” open joint stock company. This event became an important stage in the implementation of the Decree of the President of Turkmenistan № 680 “On the construction of dry cargo ships” and the agreement on the joint construction of two dry cargo ships with a capacity of 6,100 tons between the Balkan shipyard and the South Korean “Koryo Shipbuilding Industry Technology Co., Ltd” company.
The ceremony was attended by the heads of the “Turkmendenizderyayollary” agency, project managers of the “Koryo Shipbuilding Industry Technology Co., Ltd.” company, representatives of the French classification society “Bureau Veritas”, as well as students of the Marine Secondary Professional School of the city of Turkmenbashi.
It should be noted that intensive work is underway at the yard on the simultaneous construction of two ships. Thanks to the commitment and diligence of the company’s employees, a significant amount of work has been done. Construction of the two dry cargo ships began in August 2024, and on November 11, 2024, the first hull blocks of the future ships were delivered to the construction site. An important stage was the keel laying of the first vessel held on January 6, 2025.
The solemn keel laying of the second ship is one of the country’s historical moments in the field of shipbuilding and marks the beginning of the construction of another modern cargo ship, which underlines the progressive development of Turkmenistan’s shipbuilding industry. These projects are clear evidence of the successful development of the national shipbuilding industry and the strengthening of international cooperation in this important area.
