The construction of two new dry cargo ships that fully comply with international standards has begun on the territory of the Turkmenbashi International Sea Port. The project is being implemented by the “Shipbuilding and repairing yard “Balkan” Open Joint Stock Company in cooperation with the South Korean company “Koryo Shipbuilding Industry Technology Co. Ltd”.

The start of construction of new dry cargo ships marks an important stage in the development of the maritime transport sector of Turkmenistan and strengthening its position in the international maritime transportation market.

The construction is being carried out on the basis of the Resolution of the President of Turkmenistan “On the construction of dry cargo ships”, aimed at modernizing the country’s transport system. Each vessel will have a lifting capacity of 6,100 tons, a length of 123 meters, a width of 16.5 meters and a side height of 8.3 meters. The Balkan Plant, created as the first shipbuilding enterprise in the country, has a production capacity for processing 10,000 tons of steel per year and building 4-6 vessels. The enterprise is equipped with modern equipment that meets international standards.

It is especially noted that more than 90% of the project participants are local specialists who have completed two-month specialized courses under the guidance of Korean experts. It is expected that the implementation of the project will not only strengthen the marine fleet of Turkmenistan, but also significantly increase the competencies of national personnel in the field of shipbuilding.
